China Trip: Thursday, 20 July 2006

8:00am
Another day of classes! Topic was on values – the difference between good and bad values, and how one can make the decision to be a good or bad person. We had our first singing class – we taught the class “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys and the worship classic, “The Power of Your Love”. We even managed to split them into two choirs, taking turns singing different lines! One funny thing to note is they keep saying “nussing” instead of “nothing”! We also showed them some music videos, including “Numb” by Linkin Park. The activity was balloon-moulding. Most of the class managed to mould a balloon dog of sorts – long neck, extra long tail or body, and some with uneven legs! A few of the students were still around 20 minutes after the end of class as they wanted me to mould balloon flowers or swords! We also told them about the Teachers’ Concert on Friday night and mentioned the fact that I would be doing a solo song item with Megan on the piano. They all gave an indication they were coming!

12:00pm
We were meant to have lunch with government officials today, but they cancelled last minute due to some municipality meeting.
Megan managed to catch some nice photos of the church compound:

The church and the courtyard.

5:00pm
We played some badminton in the courtyard with Elin (Canaan’s older sister, 18), Melissa (grand-daughter of the older pastor, and she has super-long hair), and Jim (the loud student in my class).

7:30pm
We went shopping near the KFC in the newer part of the city and then we went to one of Peter’s favourite restaurant to “sek siu yeh” (eat snacks/supper).
